IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Benjamin Stevenson
Gay Jr.
February 28, 1980 – July 29, 2024
Benjamin Stevenson Gay Jr. was born on February 28th, 1980 in Houston, Texas to parents Benjamin and Georgia Gay. Benjamin passed into the care of our Lord on July 29th, 2024.
After graduating from Spring High School as a USA Today first-team All-American, Benjamin attended Baylor University and Garden City Community College, graduating with a Masters Degree in Biology. Benjamin played for no less than three different professional football teams, spending time with the Edmonton Eskimos from Canada and having an NFL career with the Cleveland Browns and the Indianapolis Colts. During the 2001 NFL season, Benjamin was a third-string running back. Most noteworthy was his 27-17 Browns victory at Baltimore where he was responsible for a touchdown. Following his career in the NFL, Benjamin began a career as a welder, which he continued until his passing. Benjamin married Margarita on February 10th, 2012 in Fort Morgan and she remained by his side until his passing. Benjamin and Margarita were parents and mentors to many children during their marriage, not all of whom were their biological children.
Benjamin was a stalwart Christian and a proud attendee to Platte Valley Baptist Church. He loved to spend time with his family, work on cars, and ensured that the yards of his family members were well cared for. Benjamin enjoyed staying busy, and was always happy when he had something to do.
Benjamin is survived by his spouse, Margarita Gay, his son, Damian Ortega, his daughters, Julie Ortega and Brianna Morales, his brother, Rodley Johnson, his sisters, Kathy Gay, Benika Gay, Stacey Butler, Lola Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
