Obituary

Brenda Faye Garfio, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and devoted servant of her community, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. She was 59 years old.

Born on August 6, 1966 to Virgil and Janet Schaefer, Brenda grew up in Yuma, Colorado where she attended Yuma High School obtaining her GED in 1984. It was there that the foundation was laid for a life marked by love, service, and an unwavering commitment to others.

On February 28, 1987, Brenda married the love of her life, Erasmo Garfio-Romero, beginning a partnership that would last 39 devoted years — through every joy, every challenge, and every season of life. Those who knew them knew that theirs was a love built to last.

To know Brenda was to know what it felt like to be truly seen. She never knew a stranger, and she had a remarkable gift for making everyone around her feel like they were her favorite person in the room — and somehow, she made all of us feel that way at once.

Brenda spent her career as a Spanish interpreter for the Log Lane Court, a role that allowed her to serve her community with both her skills and her compassion. Also known for her work in Celebrating Homes (Home Interiors). She was proud to have participated in the Fort Morgan Police Department Citizen Police Academy. Her dedication to service extended far beyond her professional life.

For 22 years, she faithfully served on the Altar Rosary Society at St. Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. For 34 years, she gave herself wholeheartedly to the Clavis Club, serving in numerous roles and ultimately leading the organization as its President. In April 2025, her lifetime of quiet, faithful service was recognized when she was honored as a Denver 7 Everyday Hero — an honor those who loved her would say was well deserved.

Beyond her service, Brenda had a poet’s heart and a writer’s soul. She found peace and renewal in the beauty of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado, and treasured her annual trips to Mexico with Erasmo — adventures that gave them memories to last a lifetime.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Erasmo Garfio-Romero; her father-in-law, Faustino Garfio; her children and spouses, Olisa (Thomas) Schaefer-Heras, Roberto (Megan) Garfio, Nancy (Angel) Garfio-Luna, and Teresa (Andre) Luna; her siblings and spouses, Cheryl Raichart, Charles Schaefer, Stanley Schaefer, and Laura (Jesse) Mondragon; her grandchildren, Haley Blinn, Riley Blinn, Elijah Luna, Oakley Garfio, and Otis Luna; along with her cherished fur baby, Lily, fur grandbabies and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, family and devoted friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Antonia Romero; her parents, Virgil and Janet Schaefer; her brother, Virgil Schaefer Jr; her sister, Deborah Trejo; and her brothers-in-law, Eugene Raichart and Lupe Trejo.

Brenda did not simply pass through this life — she shaped it. She is in the faith of everyone she prayed with, the laughter of her grandchildren, and the hearts of all who were lucky enough to call her theirs. She fought with grace and love until the very end, and she leaves this world having given it everything she had.

She was, until the very end, a fighter and a survivor. And she leaves this world having loved it — and the people in it — completely.
