Cruz Contreraz, 87, passed peacefully on May 27, 2024. Born to Melecio and Juana Contreraz in Fort Morgan, Colorado on May 3, 1937, Cruz lived in Morgan County all of his life. He attended Fort Morgan High School and helped his father on the farm as a young man.

After high school he began a career in cement work. He was a cement finisher and truck driver for just about every concrete company in the county at one point or another and was known to always take pride in his work.

In his private life Cruz loved the outdoors. He also loved racing at the local dirt track, and when he wasn't participating, he could often be found taking care of his cars and doing shade-tree mechanic work. He loved outings with family and friends, especially when the itinerary included camping and fishing.

Cruz is survived by his brother, Juan Contreraz, his sister Evelyn Lopez, and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Melody Peterson; his parents, Melicio Contreraz Sr. and Juana Contreraz; and his brothers Lawrence Nunez, Antonio Nunez, Margarito Nunez, and Melcio Contreraz Jr.
