IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Quirino R.
Zavala
June 4, 1952 – June 9, 2025
Quirino R. Zavala was born to parents Agustin Zavala Mendoza and Marta Ramirez Cardenas on June 4th, 1952 in Puerto de Valle, Guanajuato, Mexico. Quirino passed into the hands of the Lord on June 9th, 2025.
Living in Puerto de Valle with his family from 1952 until 1970, he enjoyed playing baseball and cultivating crops on the family farm. Quirino spent 6 months in America farming in Wiggins, Colorado, before returning to Mexico. He came back the next year, however, and it was then that he met his future wife, Hariett. They married a few years later on December 24, 1975 in Brush, Colorado, and the couple remained in Fort Morgan for the rest of Quirino's Life.
Quirino started making a living by harvesting beets as a migrant worker. After his start as an agricultural worker, Quirino spent 2 years at Excel before the union sent him to work for Universal Studios constructing sets for films for six months. Once he was called back from Universal, he switched jobs temporarily to work at Pawnee Power Plant for 6 years before eventually returning to what is now Cargill. While still employed at Cargill and after his long shifts he still managed to go work for several local farmers and ranchers when they needed the extra manpower and knowledge. Quirino continued to work for Cargill for another 35 years before moving on to a well earned retirement. He proudly attended St. Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan, Colorado with Hariett and was regularly seen on Sundays and morning weekday mass. He loved to be outside in his garden, and his children fondly remember going for runs with him when they were young. He loved music and sang his heart out every chance he got. Quirino could always be found with a Budweiser in hand at family gatherings or next to his garden and is fondly remembered for making every single day a celebration. Some of Quirino's favorite artists were Las Jilguerillas, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, and Javier Solis who wrote his all time favorite song, "Gema." Quirino is remembered for his many sayings. He would always say, " Ya vamonos, Han", to Hariett whenever he was ready to leave. "Nobody's perfect," is a quote that Quirino carried with him throughout life, and showed in his stern yet gentle parenting. He understood well that sometimes you need to make mistakes to learn, and whenever his kids had to learn these hard lessons, he would always say, "You know now cabron/a."
Quirino is preceded in death by his parents, Agustin Zavala Mendoza and Marta Ramirez Cardenas, his brothers, Maurilio Zavala and Eusebio Zavala, and his sister Sabina Zavala.
Quirino is survived by his wife, Hariett Zavala, his son, Victor (Maria Gonzalez) Zavala, his daughters, Sandra (Jesus) Cardenas, Sulema (Cervando) Herrera, Victoria (Pedro) Benitez, and Leticia (Guillermo) Morales, his brothers, Fidel Zavala and Alberto Zavala, his sisters Margarita Zavala, Luisa Zavala, Beda Zavala, Maria Elena Zavala, his 19 grandchildren, Jesus Cardenas, Rene Cardenas, Mayra Cardenas, Ivan Cardenas, Daniel Abarca Herrera, Maricruz Herrera, Servando Herrera, Olivia Herrera, Carolina Benitez, Julian Benitez, Adrian Benitez, Isahias Zavala, Yaslyne Morales, Eden Morales, Siomara Morales, Camila Morales, Leonel Zavala, Gianna Zavala, and Matteo Zavala, and his great-grandchildren, Arabella Cardenas, Kiara Cardenas, Abigail Paredes, Agustin Paredes, Cecilia Abarca, Ezrah Uribe, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
