Rodney James Jones, 72, of Brush, Colorado, passed away on July 2, 2026, at East Morgan County Hospital.
Rod was born on February 22, 1954, in Casper, Wyoming, to James and Lillian (Kirkpatrick) Jones. He spent much of his youth in the small northwestern communities of Morgan County, Colorado.
He later enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country for more than 20 years. During his military service, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Hardesty of Johnstown, Colorado. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with five children.
Throughout his military career, Rod served in a variety of roles, including Drill Sergeant and Food Inspector. He earned numerous awards and commendations, including completion of the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course. Following his retirement from the Army in 1991, he and his family returned to the Morgan County area. After his military service, Rod held a variety of careers before retiring from Dairy Farmers of America in 2019.
Rod had a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, shooting sports, and the rewarding work of operating a small farm, where he raised feed crops and worked with horses, including adopted wild mustangs. He was happiest when spending time outdoors with his family and friends and caring for the animals he loved.
Rod is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marjorie Jones of Brush, Colorado; his stepmother, Grace Jones of Fort Morgan, Colorado; his children, Jacquelyn (Van) Jones Swanson of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Jennifer (Tracy) Holloway of Brighton, Colorado, Jeff (Dawn) Jones of Otis, Colorado, James (Sarah) Jones of Goodyear, Arizona and Jessica Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina,. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lillian Jones; his sister, Janet Jones; his stepbrother, Mark Jones; and his parents-in-law, Clyde and Shirley Hardesty.
Rod will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering love of family, his faithful service to his country, and his passion for the outdoors.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held.
